Wind storm knocks out power for thousands in Qualicum Beach and Parksville

A powerful overnight windstorm knocked out power for more than 6,500 customers in the Parksville and Qualicum Beach area.

The lights went out between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Just three outages have affected more than 6,500 customers.

The large majority of outages are in Qualicum Beach, with another 1, 700 in Parksville.

Trees down across power lines are the cause of all three incidents.

B.C. Hydro says crews have been assigned to fix the problems.
