Witnesses said the cougar could be heard in the campground area at around 4:45 a.m.

RCMP patrolled the area, but did not find the animal. They recommend being vigilant and keeping small children and pets nearby.

Cougars are common in the region at this time of year, according to conservation officers. But they will typically run away from humans.
