Despite continuing efforts to deal with COVID-19, illnesses among drivers led to B.C. Transit cancelling almost 120 trips over the weekend.

Sixty-eight trips across seven routes were affected on Saturday and 50 trips among 10 routes on Sunday. Saturday’s cancellations represented an approximate one-day reduction in service of 3.2 per cent, the agency said.

“Like many other customer-facing organizations, B.C. Transit is currently experiencing service challenges due to employee illness,” the corporation said in a statement. “The health and safety of our customers and drivers is our top priority, and drivers are instructed to stay home if they are sick.”

B.C. Transit apologized for any inconvenience caused by the cancelled buses.

Once a trip cancellation is confirmed, alerts are immediately issued via the B.C. Transit website. Riders are encouraged to use NextRide, Transit App or to check for alerts at bctransit.com/victoria/schedules-and-maps/alerts. Users can also sign up for route-specific alerts that will be sent by email.
