Update: Cody Ranger has been arrested.
Nanaimo RCMP are searching for a man who is considered violent and could be in possession of firearms.
Cody Ranger, 36, is wanted on charges that include assault by choking and uttering threats.
Police said he is very unpredictable, and anyone who sees him should not approach but call 911.
Ranger is described as white, five-foot-nine and 170 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
