A Victoria woman has been identified by the B.C. Coroners Service as the victim of a logging accident near Sechelt.

Sherry Belle Bennett, 45, was killed at a private logging site on Storm Bay at 9:30 a.m. Sunday when she was struck by a falling tree.

WorkSafe B.C. is investigating. Spokesman Scott McCloy said it is not yet known what happened. He said two fallers were working near each other. One left to refuel, then heard cries for help.

“He went to investigate and found what appears to be a non-worker had been struck by a tree,” McCloy said.

“We don’t know the status of the two fallers at the moment, whether they were contractors or employees of a company, or whether the deceased person is a worker at this time.”
