Victoria police are asking for information from the public after a man was stabbed Monday in James Bay.

The 67-year-old victim was treated at hospital for injuries described as non-life threatening.

Police responded about 7:30 p.m. to a report a man had been stabbed with a knife while in a designated smoking area in the 400-block of Michigan Street, between Oswego and Menzies streets.

A man approached the victim and asked for money, then stabbed him in the hand and face with a large knife when he said he didn’t have any, police said.

The suspect then left on foot.

A woman stopped to check on the victim before leaving the scene, and police would like her to come forward so they can speak to her.

She is described as five-foot-11 and “nicely dressed,” police said.

Police ask anyone with information to contact Victoria police at 250-995-7654, extension 1. Anonymous reports can be made to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
