A man may have got more than he bargained for when he decided to take on a group of women Tuesday.

Victoria police were called about 11 p.m. to deal with a “large fight” at an establishment in the 800-block of Esquimalt Road.

The man, who knew one of the women in the group, had become belligerent, police said. He was ejected from the establishment, but had a run-in with one of the group, who were celebrating a birthday, near the door.

More than 10 of the woman’s friends came to her defence.

“The gentleman in question was attempting to depart rapidly,” said Victoria police spokesman Bowen Osoko.

The fight had broken up by the time police arrived. No weapons were involved and no one was struck or injured, Osoko said.

One of the women was particularly upset and had to be restrained by police until she calmed down.

No charges are expected.
