A third-floor lab at Victoria General Hospital was evacuated for just over an hour Wednesday when a refrigeration device malfunctioned and began to smoke.

View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst said his department was called about 11:20 a.m. and remained at the scene until about 12:30 p.m.

“It took us a little bit to find the actual issue but all in all it went very well.”

No patients had to be moved and no other areas of the hospital were disrupted, Hurst said.
