With Earth Day arriving on Saturday, Victoria councillors are encouraging the federal government to nominate the Salish Sea as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Councillors have unanimously endorsed a resolution urging the federal government to support the nomination for World Heritage Site recognition.

Laurie Gourlay, interim director of the Salish Sea Trust, said in a statement that Victoria’s resolution was “a tremendous boost” to efforts for cultural and natural protections for the Salish Sea.
