VicPD seeking public help identifying suspect in downtown vandalism

Victoria police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man caught on surveillance video vandalizing buildings on Yates Street in the early hours of Dec. 11.

Victoria police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man caught on surveillance video vandalizing buildings on Yates Street in the early hours of Dec. 12.

Officers were contacted after damage was discovered on buildings at 845 and 848 Yates St. Those reporting the damage noticed the incident had been captured on surveillance video, which shows a man approach the buildings around 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 11 and spray paint two locations.

The man is accompanied by at least one person who watches him spray paint the buildings.

The two then enter the condo building at 848 Yates St. with another group of people.

The suspect is described as white, between 20 and 30 years old, about five-foot-10 with a medium build and brown wavy hair. He was wearing a black ball cap with a red logo, a white shirt over a dark, long-sleeve shirt, beige pants, red and white shoes and carrying a black shoulder bag.

Police are asking anyone who recognizes the suspect or the people with him, or who has information about the incident, to call VicPD at 250-995-7654, extension 1, or make an anonymous report to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
