VicPD release images of suspect in Ricky's restaurant arson

An individual was caught on video throwing a lit object through the windows of the Douglas Street building.

Victoria police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect from an arson last June that caused extensive damage to a local restaurant.

The fire at Ricky’s All Day Grill at Douglas Street and Burnside Road caused an estimated $1.5 million to $2 million in property damage. It was reported to police and fire officials at 3 a.m. on June 16.

VicPD detectives on Wednesday released images of a suspect caught on video throwing a lit object through the windows of the building.

The suspect is believed to be a white male with a medium build and short hair. He was wearing all-black clothing including a black hat, gloves and a square black backpack with white writing.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident or the suspect to call 250-995-7654 extension 1. To report anonymously, call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or submit a tip online.

The restaurant has since been torn down and the property has been sold for a future furniture retail store.

The Ricky’s restaurant fire was one of several arsons in the area around the same time.

On Aug. 30, police arrested a man in connection with four arson fires in Victoria and Saanich over a span of three months. The man was charged with setting three fires on Government Street in June and July and another in Saanich in August.
