Victoria police are hoping to speak with someone they believe helped Forests Minister Katrine Conroy after she was knocked to the ground and injured in an incident near the legislature last week.

Conroy was walking near Ontario and Oswego streets on Dec. 7 between 8 and 8:30 p.m. when she was knocked down by an unknown person. She later went to the hospital for minor injuries.

Investigators, who are gathering and reviewing video evidence and canvassing for witnesses, are still trying to determine if the incident was criminal in nature or an “unfortunate accident.” So far, police say there’s no evidence to suggest the incident is related to Conroy’s role in government.

Along with appealing to the individual who helped the minister during or after the incident to contact VicPD, police are asking anyone who found eyeglasses near Ontario and Oswego streets during the past week to contact them. Conroy lost her glasses when she was knocked down.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call VicPD at 250-995-7654, extension 1, or report anonymously, to Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
