Victoria police headquarters were evacuated Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in the bike cage under the building.

Firefighters responded to the fire, which started around 11:30 a.m., said VicPD spokesperson Terri Healy.

People were able to return to the building after about 20 minutes.

The fire appears to have been started by an electric bike battery, Healy said.

Some of the items in the bike cage were damaged but it’s unclear if there is structural damage, she said.
