Saanich police say three schools were vandalized on the weekend.

Three Saanich schools were vandalized during the weekend.

Observant dog walkers out late Sunday night noticed smashed windows at Spectrum Community School, Saanich Police Sgt. John Price said Monday.

“When they called, our members went out to the other schools,” he said.

Officers discovered broken windows at Colquitz Middle School and McKenzie Elementary School as well.

The cost of the damage is not yet known but the schools have been notified. Students are enjoying their Christmas holidays, so no classes were affected.

“The big thing, from our perspective, is the cost of this damage is just being passed on to the taxpayer and the school budgets,” Price said. He asked anyone who has information about the vandalism to call police and for residents to keep a watch out.

“We’re aware and watching the schools at night. But we also ask the good neighbours, dog walkers or anyone to call 911 if they see something suspicious,” Price said.
