Vancouver Island escapes major power outages after windstorm

All alerts, warnings and special weather statements in place for the Island have been lifted by Environment Canada.

A couple of hundred B.C. Hydro customers are without power this morning after an overnight windstorm.

B.C. Hydro is reporting about 250 customers without power in Langford, Colwood and Metchosin due to trees down across power lines. No power outages have been reported in the north Island.

All alerts, warnings and special weather statements in place for the Island have been lifted by Environment Canada. This comes after wind warnings and special statements about possible flooding following a week of heavy snowfall and rain.

Today in Greater Victoria Environment Canada has forecast a high of 8C today with a chance of showers. Westerly winds of 30 kilometres an hour are expected, gusting up to 60 km/h near Juan de Fuca Strait this morning.

Daily high temperatures are expected to be between 6 to 8 C for the rest of the week with the promise of sun on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
