The Coastal Celebration, whose refit led to many cancelled sailings on the Canada Day weekend, resumed service Monday afternoon after two sailings were cancelled due to problems with the ship’s propulsion system.

The 10 a.m. sailing from Swartz Bay and the noon sailing from Tsawwassen were called off, but the ferry resumed regular service at 2 p.m. — although it was operating 32 minutes behind schedule.

Reserved customers and those already checked in at the terminal were accommodated on the next available sailing, B.C. Ferries said.

The company said oil was detected coming from the ship’s propeller hub, and an inspection dive was planned for Monday night to assess the extent of the damage and develop a detailed repair plan.

Information on scheduling and other issues is posted at bcferries.com.
