Two officers injured during arrest of Campbell River stabbing suspect

One man stabbed another at a residence in Campbell River.

Two police officers were hurt while arresting an attempted murder suspect in Campbell River on Friday.

A 22-year-old man stabbed a 21-year-old man multiple times in a 900-block Cedar Street residence at around 7 p.m. on Friday, police said in a statement.

The assailant was known to the victim, they said.

The victim was transported to Campbell River Hospital and is expected to survive.

Police attempting to take the suspect into custody were injured with varying levels of non-life-threatening injuries when the suspect resisted arrest, police said.

The suspect was also taken to hospital for treatment, though police did not specify the extent of the man’s injuries.

There is no added risk to public safety at this time, police said.

Drugs are believed to have played a factor in the stabbing, though the police statement did not elaborate on how.
