B.C. Ferries has cancelled two Friday evening sailings aboard the Queen of Alberni, citing crew shortages.

The 5 p.m. sailing from Departure Bay in Nanaimo has been pulled from the schedule, as well as the 7:20 p.m. sailing from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver.

B.C. Ferries said its customer service centre was contacting customers with bookings to refund fees.

The company said it requires a specific number of crew members on board the vessel to ensure the safety of passengers and to comply with Transport Canada regulations.

“The decision to cancel a sailing in these circumstances is made when we have exhausted all options to find replacement crew,” B.C. Ferries said.

If circumstances change and replacement crew become available, B.C. Ferries said it will notify customers immediately.
