Two suspects have been arrested by West Shore RCMP in a pair of unrelated stolen-vehicle investigations.

The first case began at about 9 a.m. on Thursday when police received multiple calls regarding a green 1994 Mercury Topaz being driven erratically in the area of Meaford and Station avenues in Langford.

Police received another call a short time later saying the Topaz had just been stolen from Goldstream Avenue.

Officers tracked down the car and arrested a 41-year-old man for possession of stolen property, possession of controlled substances, impaired driving and driving while prohibited.

He was suspected to be under the influence of drugs, and a search revealed he had more than 2.5 grams of controlled substances.

Under a decriminalization pilot project that went into effect this week, B.C. adults are allowed to possess up to 2.5 grams of illegal drugs such as opioids and cocaine.

The man was later released and given a May 4 court date.

The second investigation started around 2 a.m. Friday when an officer on patrol came across a green 2002 Jeep Wrangler idling behind businesses in the 770-block of Goldstream.

The officer determined the Jeep was stolen and the driver was wanted on a warrant for prohibited driving.

The suspect faces charges for prohibited driving as well as possession of stolen property, police said.
