On the North Island, 1,686 homes are without power in 10 outages in Campbell River, Courtenay, Nanaimo, Nanoose and North Cowichan. A tree fallen on wires is cause for some of the Nanaimo outages but the rest are under investigation.

Wild winds overnight and this morning might be cause for some of the power problems. Environment Canada has issued a weather warning for Vancouver Island, including Greater Victoria.

Low pressure is expected to pass over the south coast this morning, with developing strong southerly winds gusting up to 90 kilometres per hour.
