A Telus landline outage affecting 25 customers in Victoria has been restored.

The disruption of Telus home phones and 911 landline service due to a hardware issue was reported shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Telus spokesperson Olivia Andolfatto said that service to the affected customers was restored on Thursday by 5:40 p.m.

“We know how critical connectivity is for our customers, and we would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we worked to resolve the issue,” Andolfatto said in a statement.

The initial service outage announcement did not specify the number of customers affected and the company was still listing the outage on its website Friday morning.

A spokesperson for E-Comm, the emergency communications centre that answers B.C.’s 911 calls, said that telecom providers are responsible for communications infrastructure.

“If anyone has difficulty contacting 911 from a landline, we encourage them to try calling from a cell phone or finding another method,” said E-Comm media relations specialist Kelly Surey.
