The seized items also included an extendable baton and bear spray, police said.

Sidney/North Saanich RCMP seized weapons including a shotgun with ammunition from an 18-year-old who was under court-ordered conditions not to possess them.

Police said they had received information that the youth had weapons at the home.

He was arrested without incident Tuesday at his Sidney residence and made his first court appearance Wednesday.

The seized items also included an extendable baton and bear spray, said B.C. RCMP spokesman Cpl. Alex Bérubé, who noted the court-ordered conditions were less than a week old.

Bérubé said police are recommending new charges related to unauthorized possession of a firearm and unsafe storage of a firearm.

The teen had recently been released into the community on an “intensive support and supervision order” that included being under the supervision of a youth-probation officer and having an assigned youth worker.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Sidney/North Saanich RCMP at 250-656-3931.
