Nanaimo RCMP have arrested a suspect nine days after a man was stabbed in Port Alberni.

The victim was stabbed multiple times April 4 and suffered serious injuries. Witnesses were able to identify the attacker but he was not immediately located.

He was arrested early Tuesday after Nanaimo RCMP responded to a complaint about individuals in a private vacant lot, and identified the man.

He was later found to be in possession of drugs believed to be fentanyl.

Port Alberni RCMP Sgt. Clayton Wiebe said the suspect is well-known to the victim, witnesses and Port Alberni RCMP members. He said police believe the stabbing was an isolated incident.
