A 23-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries and a 52-year-old suspect has been arrested after a shooting Sunday night in Lake Cowichan.

Lake Cowichan RCMP responded to a residence on South Shore Road just before 11 p.m., along with the Vancouver Island RCMP Emergency Response Unit.

The shooting victim is expected to survive.

Investigators are working to piece together the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including the relationship between the suspect and the victim, said B.C. RCMP spokesperson Alex Bérubé.

“While the investigation remains in its infancy, there is no further perceived risk to the public as the lone suspect remains in custody,” Bérubé said.

Anyone with information, dashcam footage or other video surveillance is asked to contact Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-749-6668.
