A month after Matthew Huzsar disappeared outside the Lamplighter pub following a company Christmas party Dec. 16, 2011, his dad Rod, sister Rachael and mother Danny Huszar announced a $10,000 reward for information on his whereabouts.

The remains of 25-year-old Matthew Huszar have been located in Vancouver’s False Creek, two years after he disappeared after a 2011 Christmas party.

Vancouver police said the remains, found New Year’s Eve, were identified as Huszar after a forensic investigation. Foul play is not suspected.

Huszar, a geologist, had left a company Christmas party in Gastown on Dec. 16, 2011, and vanished after setting out about midnight for his apartment in the Commercial Drive area.

His parents, Rod and Danny, who live in Shirley, west of Sooke, could not be reached for comment on Saturday, but the family acknowledged what had transpired and thanked people for their support via findmatthewhuszar.ca.

Tributes to Huszar began accumulating on Facebook.

“This is such a sad day today,” wrote Sol Oliver. “Matt will be missed by the whole community. Sending love and support to Matt’s family.”

Maureen Trask offered her deepest condolences to family and friends: “May his fond memories bring you comfort.”

Catherine Banfield said that although she had never met Huszar, the case was poignant for her because they shared many friends. “I’m so sorry things have ended this way.”
