String of Comox Valley break-ins prompts RCMP warning

Break-ins were reported at Hornby Place as well as Thorpe Avenue in Courtenay, and on Aspen Road near Guthrie Road in Comox.

Comox Valley RCMP are warning the public to secure their homes after a string of break-ins in the area.

In Courtenay, police said they responded to a break and enter at a Hornby Place residence on Feb. 24 and another at a Thorpe Avenue residence on March 1.

In Comox, police responded to one break and enter on Aspen Road near Guthrie Road on Feb. 28.

The three locations are within a 15-minute drive of each other.

“Those incidents remain actively under investigation, including whether or not there is a connection between them,” police said in a statement.

The RCMP are asking residents to review their security-camera footage and report any suspicious activities.

Tips offered by police to help secure a homes include using a house-sitter when on vacation, installing motion-sensor lights around a property’s perimeter, and installing a doorbell camera or door viewer.
