A report of a suspicious vehicle at the View Royal casino on New Year’s Eve resulted in the discovery of a cache of stolen chequebooks and financial documents as well as tools and electronics obtained with stolen credit cards, say police.

When West Shore RCMP responded to the report of the suspicious vehicle parked at Elements Casino, 1708 Island Hwy, they found a man and woman sitting inside a white Ford F150.

The pair gave officers false identification and after a search were arrested for identity fraud, obstruction and possession of stolen property. The male suspect was also arrested for possession of forged documents.

Police searched the vehicle and seized multiple tools and high-valued electronics, including virtual-reality goggles and doorbell cameras.

They also recovered several stolen chequebooks, identification cards and personal financial statements from over two dozen victims, said Cpl. Nancy Saggar.

Saggar said police have begun contacting the victims, many of whom had previously reported their wallets being stolen.

A 48-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were taken into police custody and were to appear in court Tuesday.
