I have been advised by Saanich Police that Trevor Palmatier has been arrested and charged with criminal offences.
I can confirm that Mr. Palmatier has been the subject of an investigation under Dive B.C.’s member conduct policy following a complaint in early March. As part of that process, a discipline committee imposed an interim suspension.
As a result, Mr. Palmatier has not been involved in any club/association activities since then and has had no contact with any of our athletes.
As of May 9, the committee has extended the suspension indefinitely.
Clearly, this is very unsettling news for the diving community. Keep in mind that these are allegations at this point.
I have no reason to suspect there will be other complainants in this case; however, should anyone have any information that may be relevant to this case, we are asking them to contact the police immediately
Our utmost concern — as always — is with our athletes. We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure their safety and well-being when they’re in our care.
I have no other information relating to the charges, the alleged victim or victims, Mr. Palmatier’s whereabouts or the next steps in the criminal process. I’d suggest you contact the police directly for those details.
I wish also to state for the record that my son Riley McCormick is not involved in this case in any way. He has not contacted nor been contacted by the police. He was coached by Mr. Palmatier for a couple of seasons but that ended in early 2007 when Mr. Palmatier was terminated by the club.
