Standoff in Esquimalt ends in arrest

Victoria police cordoned off an Esquimalt apartment building Sunday afternoon after a gunshot was heard from one of the suites. Apartment suites were evacuated around 304-1180 Colville Rd. and at about 5 p.m.

A police standoff in Esquimalt on Sunday ended just after 6 p.m.

Victoria police cordoned off an Esquimalt apartment building Sunday afternoon after a gunshot was heard from one of the suites.

Apartment suites were evacuated around 304-1180 Colville Rd. and at about 5 p.m., the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team arrived on scene.

A police negotiator arrived at about 5:30 p.m.

The male suspect was described as early 30s, bald and with tattoos. Police described him as armed and dangerous.

The standoff ended just after 6 p.m. as a male was taken by police from the complex.
