Jordan Robert Joseph, 35, is facing charges that include wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence, robbery and assault with a weapon.

Staff at Duncan’s Coronation Market and bystanders combined to hold an armed-robbery suspect until police arrived and made an arrest.

“The store owners were having none of this guy taking their money,” North Cowichan/Duncan Cpl. Krista Hobday said of the Tuesday incident.

“But then things got a little tense when weapons started getting produced and people started yelling.

“The police showed up just in time,” Hobday said.

The type of weapon or weapons used is not being released, Hobday said.

She said police urge the public to be careful about jumping into what can be dangerous situations, “especially since there is potential for weapons and [the] unpredictability of the person you’re trying to subdue.”
