The family of a man arrested after three people were injured in a stabbing in a semi-rural area of North Saanich say the incident stemmed from a mental-health issue.

Sidney-North Saanich RCMP and paramedics responded to a 911 call on early Friday evening, and took one man into custody.

In a statement Friday, police said there was no danger to the public.

At the family home on Monday, the father and another family member both said it was a mental-health matter. Drugs were not involved, the father said.

The father said he received several stab wounds and his right thumb was cut at the tendon.

A family member is in hospital in Vancouver with a spinal cord injury.
