Speed a factor in Courtenay crash, RCMP says

Speed is considered a factor in a crash in Courtenay Thursday that left two people in hospital with serious injuries.

A car was heading north on Highway 19A near Mission Hill about 11:40 a.m. when it clipped another vehicle, veered off the road and into a tree.

Comox Valley RCMP said there’s an indication the car was travelling at high speed.

The 26-year-old male driver and 25-year-old female passenger, both from Courtenay, were flown to hospital with serious injuries, said Comox Valley RCMP spokesman Const. Rob Gardner.

The RCMP’s integrated collision analysis and reconstruction services and North Island traffic services are investigating the crash.
