Sooke's Whiffin Spit reopens after Monday closure for cleanup

Crews cleared the storm debris along the Whiffin Spit trail that accumulated during the powerful wind storms and high tides last week.

Whiffin Spit, the 2.7-kilometre-long sandbar that nearly encloses Sooke Harbour, was closed Monday to allow crews to clean up the trail.

Crews cleared the storm debris along the Whiffin Spit trail that accumulated during the powerful wind storms and high tides last week. The job became more difficult with recent snowfall.

The District of Sooke said the trail and parking lot would be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to facilitate the safe removal of debris, ensuring that the trail is in suitable condition for public use once the cleanup is complete.

The trail was reopened at 3 p.m.
