Sooke RCMP are seeking information from the public after a 73-year-old resident was charged with two counts of sexual assault.

Robert Deryk, known as Bonsai Bob, faces charges for incidents that allegedly occurred last September against victims who were 12 and 13 years old at the time.

“We believe there are more victims,” said Sooke RCMP Const. Stacey Finlay. “We’re looking for information anywhere in the past 20 years.”

Deryk has been released on his own recognizance with conditions that include no contact with the alleged victims and not being in the presence of anyone appearing to be 16 years old or younger.

His nickname comes from his extensive collection of bonsai trees.

Anyone with information is asked to call Finlay at 250-642-5241.
