Charges have been laid in the suspicious death of a man in the Otter Point area a year ago.
Adam John Steenbergen has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Michael Leier, a 42-year-old father.
Sooke RCMP and paramedics responded March 12, 2023, to a report of a man in need of medical attention in the 8500 Block of West Coast Road, between Sooke and Shirley. When they arrived just before 10 p.m., the man had died.
At the time, RCMP said the man had possibly sustained injuries in a remote area near Jordan River.
The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit took over the investigation.
Exactly a year later, Steenbergen was charged with manslaughter using a firearm. He is also charged with three other firearm offences, including careless use or storage of a firearm.
