ICBC rejected more than a quarter of all personalized licence plate requests last year.

The B.C. public insurer received 9,500 requests in 2023, but about 2,600 were denied for obscene or abusive language, sexually suggestive phrases and trademark violations, among other reasons.

Some of the plates that were rejected include DNT HIT, IXLR8, CRASH1, FRBALL, SO-HIGH and UNSAFE.

In all, 73 per cent were approved and 27 per cent weren’t.

“ICBC’s dedicated team meticulously reviews every application to ensure each slogan is appropriate to display on a B.C. licence plate,” said Sandy-Anne Dodig, ICBC’s manager of insurance operations support.

“A personalized licence plate can be a creative way to express yourself, and we encourage drivers to review the criteria and guidelines on icbc.com prior to applying.”

Some other plates rejected by ICBC last year:

• YSO SLO

• 2FAS4U

• UNVXD

• OMG MOV

• NO LAW

• YS OFSR

• UNDCVR

• XRCIST

• AMEN

• TARGET

• ROCK1T

• PORSCHE

The complete list of rejections is available here. (Some slogans and acronyms may be offensive to some.)
