Victoria and Saanich police have joined forces with the B.C. Coroners Service in an effort to identify skeletal human remains found in February by recreational divers in the Gorge Waterway.

Victoria police were called to the Gorge near the Tillicum Bridge Feb. 4 after the discovery was made. The divers had found a partial cranial bone that was at first thought to be an archeological specimen.

The Coroners Service took the remains for further testing that showed they are likely historical, but not ancient.

Saanich police divers are involved, along with the Victoria police Historical Case Review Unit.
