Police in Courtenay issued six immediate roadside driving prohibitions in less than six hours in a recent blitz.

Officers from the B.C. Highway Patrol’s Campbell River division were patrolling for high-risk driving, including impaired driving, from 4:30-10 p.m. on Nov. 4.

A 12-hour driving prohibition for a driver with a novice licence was also issued. Drivers with novice and learner designations are required to have a blood-alcohol concentration of zero, police said.

“We continue to target those who choose to put themselves and others at risk by driving while impaired,” said Staff Sgt. Adam Tallboy, acting officer in charge of the B.C. Highway Patrol on Vancouver Island. “Although it is unfortunate that these drivers made the wrong decision, it speaks to the determination of B.C. Highway Patrol officers to making our highways safer.”

Saanich police joined Mothers Against Drunk Drivers Canada Nov. 1 in the Project Red Ribbon campaign promoting sober driving during the holiday season.

B.C.’s annual CounterAttack program will start at the beginning of December.
