Search underway for kayaker in Tahsis Inlet after empty kayak found

A search is continuing for a kayaker after an unoccupied kayak was recovered Friday evening near Tahsis Narrows on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Witnesses said a man, believed to be 21-year-old Allan Duarte Da Rosa, departed in a kayak from the west side of Tahsis Inlet about 5 p.m.

Nootka Sound RCMP, based in Gold River, were informed about 10 p.m. that the coast guard out of Tahsis had begun a search.

Police have joined the search, which also includes a ground search-and-rescue team that has looked at areas on both sides of the inlet.

Da Rosa is described as six-foot-four with dark hair and brown eyes, and was wearing a black jacket.
