The search in Nanaimo for a woman missing since last Thursday has been suspended.

Nanaimo RCMP and Nanaimo Search and Rescue focused on the Millstone River area from Bowen Road to Nanaimo Harbour in an effort to locate 48-year-old Nancy Gagne.

Several items belonging to Gagne had been found near the river.

Nanaimo Search and Rescue said its members spent a combined total of 567 hours searching the areas around of Bowen Park, the Millstone River and Buttertubs Marsh.

Searchers had been out until midnight Thursday and resumed at daybreak on Friday, then continued on Saturday.

The Cowichan, Ladysmith, Arrowsmith, Campbell River and Comox Valley search teams also helped look for Gagne.

On Sunday, Nanaimo Search and Rescue said the search had been stood down “pending new information.”

Police said that high water levels and turbidity are currently preventing the RCMP Dive Team from searching the river itself, but the investigation remains active.

Gagne is described as white, five-foot-seven and 150 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing multi-coloured pyjamas.

Call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 with any information.
