Scooter rider with no light or helmet turns out to be subject of warrant

The man was wanted on the West Shore for theft and failing to attend court

Riding an electric scooter at night with no light and no helmet landed a man in trouble for an unrelated warrant.

Oak Bay police said the 34-year-old man was one of two lightless, helmetless riders spotted about 10:40 p.m. last week on Cadboro Bay Road, near Hamiota Street.

After stopping the pair, police found the man was the subject of a warrant out of the West Shore for theft and failing to attend court.

He was arrested and taken to a cell at the West Shore RCMP detachment.
