Saanich police are trying locate a family to ensure their safety.

The family is believed to be travelling in B.C. or Alberta. Police say they were supposed to have returned to Victoria on Sept. 4.

Police first issued an alert about Bradley Cook, 42, and Melissa Trost, 40, and their two young children, who ordinarily reside in Saanich, on Saturday.

That prompted someone claiming to be Cook to contact the media saying the family was not “missing.”

On Monday, Saanich police clarified that they were looking for information on the family’s whereabouts, with a focus on their "safety and well-being."

Police said they have received several tips from the public and continue to seek more information.
