Saanich police are warning parents after a 14-year-old girl was approached by a man in a vehicle who asked for help looking for his dog.

Police said the teenager was walking on Queenswood Drive at MacDonald Drive West at 5:15 p.m. Monday when a black vehicle pulled up beside her. The driver asked for help looking for his dog until the girl ran away. The man then drove away, possibly swerving eastbound on Queenswood Drive.

Officers responded to the area but were not able to locate the man.

Police said it appears to be an isolated incident, and they are looking for information that could help identify the man or the vehicle.

The man is described as white and about 30. He was wearing a black tuque, a black face mask and a puffy jacket. His clothing was described as dirty, and he was driving an older black four-door vehicle in poor condition, with the rear side windows smashed out. The girl said there were cans and bottles for recycling inside the car.

Anyone with information is asked to call Saanich police at 250-475-4321 or Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-888-222-TIPS (8477).
