A man arrested in connection with a domestic incident early Sunday is facing seven charges that include assault, careless use of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm and possession of stolen property.

Nathan Damien Gauthier, 26, appeared in court Monday.

Saanich police Sgt. Steve Eassie said the firearm involved was stolen during a break-and-enter in Victoria.

Sunday’s incident, involving a man and a 25-year-old woman, happened on Earl Grey Street, between Gorge Road West and Burnside Road West.

Police responded about 4:30 a.m. after receiving reports of a man with a rifle.

Neighbouring buildings were evacuated while the situation unfolded.

Gauthier has been released on conditions and is set to be back in court July 25.
