Saanich has developed a new online budget simulation tool and survey to allow residents to weigh in how their tax dollars should be used.

The tool is available until Feb.14 at saanich.ca/budget and allows residents to indicate how they’d like funding allocated for different categories, such as policing, capital projects and engineering.

There is also a survey to allow residents to identify their spending priorities for the 2024 budget.

An early version of the budget would require a tax increase of more than eight per cent, due to the rising costs of labour.

The district will hold three special budget meetings starting in March where residents can offer feedback. Saanich will also accept email submissions at [email protected] or [email protected].

Residents can drop off written feedback at the municipal hall or register to call in during the meetings.

Saanich has also launched a new public engagement platform called HelloSaanich, which is designed to be a central hub to share information and receive input and feedback.

Participation projects that are currently active are shown on the homepage.
