A dining fixture in suburban Saanich is changing hands and is set to open with a new name early next week.

1550s Pub Style Restaurant on Cedar Hill Cross Road, owned and operated by Keith Campbell for more than three decades, has been sold to the owners of The Rack West Coast Bistro.

1550s closed Tuesday and will undergo renovations with an opening planned for next week with a “new look, menu and feature nights,” according to a social media post by The Rack.

The Saanich location at 1550 Cedar Hill Cross Rd. will be the second for The Rack, which has a restaurant on Millstream Road in Langford.

Campbell confirmed the sale of 1550s in a social-media post, saying it was time “to pass the torch to someone else.

“It has been a lifetime of meeting wonderful people within our neighborhood and making friendships that will last a lifetime,” said Campbell. “Without your support, we could never have done it. From the bottom of my heart, I thank every one of our customers for the years of support.”

Campbell said he will remain at the restaurant to ensure an easy transition for the new owners, staff and customers.
