A cold, dark night in January could warm up considerably as the Roundhouse project in Vic West finally makes it to public hearing.

Victoria council unanimously voted Thursday to send the massive development project, which includes more than 1,800 residential units, to a hearing in the first half of January.

The project, which has been in the works for more than 15 years, proposes nine buildings ranging in height from 10 to 32 storeys, renovated and restored heritage buildings, 60,000 square feet of commercial space, and public amenities that include an onsite daycare.

The revised proposal includes 1,870 residential units, 30 fewer than earlier proposed.

The 10-acre site is at 251 Esquimalt Rd., 210 Kimta Rd. and 355 Catherine St.
