A 41-year-old man was arrested for mischief, assaulting a police officer and assault with a weapon after Oak Bay police responded to a report that someone was throwing rocks at the windows of businesses at Cadboro Bay and Foul Bay roads.

Police were called about 10:35 p.m. on March 11 and soon located a man nearby who matched the description provided by witnesses.

When the man was told he was under arrest, he threw a rock at an officer — who managed to duck out of the way — then threw a second rock that damaged the windshield of a police vehicle.

He gave up without incident when police said they were going to deploy a conducted-energy weapon.

After a court appearance the next day, the man was released with conditions and another court date.

Total damages from the incident are estimated at $4,000.
