The closing of a busy stretch of Douglas Street from Hillside Avenue to Bay Street due to construction is expected to wrap up on Tuesday.

Access to the section of Douglas has been limited since Oct. 4 for underground utility work.

The southbound section has been fully closed and crews have been working 24/7 including weekends, the City of Victoria said.

One northbound transit lane and one northbound traffic lane remained open, with lane obstructions.

About a dozen southbound transit routes have been making detours on Government Street and Blanshard Street as a result.

B.C. Transit said in a service notice that the detours around the affected section of Douglas St. would be in effect until Tuesday.

Roads leading towards downtown Victoria have been busy with construction in recent weeks. Work continues on water main upgrades on Blanshard Street from Fort Street to Caledonia Avenue, as well as construction on the 2.7 kilometre-stretch of protected bike lanes on Fort Street between Cook Street and Foul Bay Road.
