Drivers using the Malahat overnight from Monday to Wednesday, July 18 to 20, can expect delays as work continues on a repair project in the Tunnel Hill area.

Single-lane alternating traffic will start at 11 p.m. all three days and continue until 5 a.m. the next day to allow for relocation of barriers and safety equipment, and temporary line painting.

Traffic delays could be up to 20 minutes, and drivers can expect short stoppages early in the evenings, as well.

The stretch of highway was seriously damaged by large volumes of water last November during heavy rainfall.

A $14.9-million contract for Windley Contracting Ltd. of Nanaimo to complete permanent repairs was announced in May.

The project is expected to be completed by next summer.
